Incompetent MCAs to be kicked out of Nairobi County Assembly committees
Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo has warned of a looming reshuffle in the House committees to ensure competence and professionalism.
Guyo explained that the restructuring will be based on the members’ professional backgrounds and input in the said committees.
He said this will ensure the committees are given the capacity to execute their duties better.
“How can you be a member of the budget committee yet you cannot construct a simple English sentence? The reshuffle is to ensure efficiency in committees and the move should not be seen as targeting anyone,” said Guyo.
The Matopeni Ward MCA was speaking on Tuesday during a County Assembly stakeholders’ forum in Nairobi which attracted participants from the assembly, county executive, USAID, Agile and Harmonized Assistance for Devolved Institutions (AHADI), UKAid as well as other non-state actors.
In October 2018, the House Business committee reshuffled committees which resulted in a section of the MCAs feeling they were being punished for supporting embattled former speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi and Lower Savanna MCA Nicholas Okumu were among MCAs who claimed to have been stripped of committee membership and only remaining with two for their supposed support for Elachi.
