Injera equals World Series try scoring record

Kenya sevens star player Collins Injera has finally equaled the try scoring record at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series previously held by Santiago Gomez of Argentina.

The speedy Injera reached the historic 230 try mark during Kenya’s second pool match against Scotland in the season-ending London leg of the series on Saturday afternoon. Inspite of Injera last ditch try, Kenya lost the match 24-12.

An extra motivation for Injera was the presence of his parents on the stands at Twickenham Stadium. Injera saved the historic moment for last serving up two deft dummies from a penalty before powering his way to the try line.

Earlier on in the same match, Injera received a gift from his elder brother, Humphrey Kayange, who did all the hard work before passing the ball to him for his 229th try on the stroke of half time as Scotland led 19-5.

Injera also scored a try in Kenya’s first Pool C match against Portugal, as Benjamin Ayimba’s men rallied from a 17-5 deficit at the break to clinch a 22-17 win after the hooter.

The Kenyan team is due to play their last pool match against France at 6:04pm.
