Inside Gachagua’s peace talks with Kiambu politicians
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned Kiambu Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) against impeaching Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
The DP spoke while chairing a reconciliatory meeting comprising elected leaders from the county.
Wamatangi and a section of the MCAs have been at loggerheads for a while amid reports of a looming impeachment.
In a closed-door meeting held at Gachagua’s Nairobi office, the DP reportedly emphasised the importance of unity among politicians in Central Kenya.
“The prospect of impeaching the governor will not contribute to solving the issues faced by your constituents. What is needed at this time is unity and the implementation of your campaign promises,” he explained.
Nairobi News understands MCAs told the DP that some Members of Parliament had been sucked into their feud with the county boss.
The MCAs alleged that the said MPs from the area were pursuing personal interests and could be responsible for the recent removal of Godfrey Mucheke from the position of Majority Leader in the County Assembly.
Mucheke’s removal was reversed by a court ruling.
Gachagua engaged the MCAs and proceeded to hold a session with all 14 MPs.
The DP later had a meeting with Governor Wamatangi.
Gachagua has in recent times declared his intent to unite all leaders from Mount Kenya in a bid to ‘increase the region’s shares in President William Ruto’s government’.
President Ruto has since dismissed the shares notion, stating that his government will equally serve all Kenyans regardless of their political affilaition.
Kiambu, former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s home turf, has always witnessed high-octane politics.
The county, which borders Nairobi, has so far been served by four Governors including William Kabogo, Ferdinand Waititu, James Nyoro, and Wamatangi.
No county boss has so far successfully managed to serve for two terms including Waititu who was impeached.
Wamatangi triumphed over a star-studded cast in the 2022 polls which included Moses Kuria and Kabogo.
