Khalwale tips Luhya to succeed President-elect Ruto

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale says he is confident a Luhya politician will take over from President-elect William Ruto when he finishes his ten-year term at State House.

The veteran politician spoke in his Western Kenya home turf while on the campaign trail in aid of Cleophas Malala’s failed Kakamega county gubernatorial bid.

He also expressed confidence Ruto will win the case at the Supreme Court challenging his win in the August 9 presidential election.

“William Ruto will be sworn in as the president and after he is sworn in Uhuru Kenyatta will be out and when the time comes Ruto will be out and the Luhya community will be in,” he said.

“We have Musalia Mudavadi, if he doesn’t want it we give it to (Moses) Wetangula if he doesn’t want it either we have Luhya kids who are being born, I want you to believe that it is possible for us.”

Despite enjoying support from Mudavadi and Wentangula, Ruto who was contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) struggled to woo the Luhya community during the August 9 polls and was soundly defeated by Raila Odinga

Nairobi governor is the other top politician with Luhya roots in Ruto’s camp.

The President-elect garnered less than 35% of votes cast in Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Busia counties.

Ruto has picked Rigathi Gachagua as his Deputy an appointment that effectively makes him his second in command.
