Kidero faults Wambora’s impeachment
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has faulted the Senate over last week’s impeachment of former Embu Governor Martin Nyaga Wambora.
Mr Kidero said the Senate should have respected a court injunction that barred proceedings that led to the impeachment.
“It’s a very unfortunate incident and sets a precedence of conflict between the Judiciary and the legislature. Everyone has his role and that is why the Chief Justice has put up a three-judge bench. If there was an injunction, that should have been obeyed,” said Dr Kidero said on Monday.
The governor was speaking at City Hall during the launch of a task force on education. The task force will explore how to improve quality of education in the county.
Asked whether he felt he could also be ousted, the Governor said that he is confident on his perforamance.
“I was elected by the people of Nairobi and I’m carrying out my mandate as you can see,” he said.
The Nairobi county assembly had last year discussed a motion to impeach Dr Kidero over the alleged altercation with Women representative Rachel Shebesh but this has since fizzled out.
