‘Kidero youth’ attack MP over Mumias woes

Youth said to be supporters of Nairobi governor Evans Kidero heckled and even attempted to attack an MP at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday.

They had attended a defamation case where Dr Kidero has sued Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale for allegedly linking him to the collapse of Mumias Sugar Company.

Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali who had attended the same proceedings was ambushed as he addressed journalists outside the courts.

SHOUTING MARCH

The MP engaged the youth in a shouting march after they interrupted his address.

“You have been hired by Kidero to do this,” Mr Washiali charged as the youth as they threatened to attack him.

His aides also traded insults with young men.

The MP was forced to retreat into the court precincts as the youth began charging at him. And all this time, police officers manning the courts were watching.

Dr Kidero has won the first round of the case after getting interim orders restraining the senator from linking him to problems at the company until the case is heard and determined.

Justice Joseph Sergon issued the orders pending the hearing of the case.

Dr Kidero is aggrieved by remarks he claims Dr Khalwale made during a presidential function in Mumias recently.

KIDERO’S ARREST

He had demanded an apology from Dr Kwalwale but this did not happen and that is when he went to court.

It is alleged the senator called for Dr Kidero’s arrest alleging he is among those behind financial woes that have bedevilled the company where he (Dr Kidero) worked as a managing director.

Dr Kidero had demanded a retraction of the statements through an “immediate, unconditional and prominent apology published in at least two leading newspapers of national circulation.”

Hearing continues Thursday.
