K’Ogalo to be feted on Sunday

Gor Mahia will be handed the  Tusker Premier League (TPL) championship trophy on Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The team will be feted during their match against KCB.

KPL Chief Executive Jack Oguda had initially indicated that the trophy will be presented on the last day of the season when Gor Mahia meet Ulinzi at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

This has however changed at the request of the champions.

Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana expressed satisfaction with the decision, but said they would have preferred to be handed the trophy on Saturday.

This is in order to give more fans  the opportunity to be part of the celebrations.

“We are talking to KPL to see if they can change the date. Our fans will be travelling from all over and so Saturday is a good day to enable them travel back to their destinations,” Mr Bwana told Nairobi News.

Security is expected to be watertight as K’Ogalo get their hands to the trophy after an 18-year wait.

There are concerns that overzealous fans may invade the pitch during the ceremony and Football Kenya Federation, KPL, Gor Mahia and KCB are set to meet to plan on security.

Last year’s trophy presentation for the KPL Top 8 tournament ceremony was cut short after Gor Mahia’s fans rushed to the presentation podium.

The same happened when they were crowned the FKF Cup (now GOtv Shield Cup) champions.
