Medical team mobilized at JKIA for Kenyans returning from South Sudan

Kenyans returning home from war-torn South Sudan will have a team of counselors available for them at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport  to provide psychological support.

The Kenya Red Cross Society has set up a reception center at the airport for that purpose with two ambulances from E-plus on standby to handle any casualties. Two paramedics will be onboard the next outbound flight to Juba to offer further medical support.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the government of Kenya has started evacuating Kenyans affected by fighting Juba, with the first flight expected on Saturday at JKIA.

However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their Facebook page confirmed that commercial flights to Juba resumed from 14th July, 2016 and those able to make arrangements to travel back should do so.

They also asked Kenyans with relatives in South Sudan to urgently request them to register with the Embassy in Juba, and urged those who wish to remain in South Sudan to be vigilant.

“A team from the Red Cross Society and emergency plus medical service, has been activated to offer support to the evacuation mission,” said Venant Dhingila Emergency Operations/Security Manager KRCS.

The fighting that broke out between armed forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and his deputy Riek Machar on July 08 has reportedly left more than 278 dead and hundreds either injured or displaced.
