Mugalia crosses to Tusker after Sofapaka fallout

By BRIAN WASUNA January 29th, 2014 2 min read

Tusker has signed former Harambee Stars striker Bob Mugalia from Sofapaka on a season-long loan.

Mugalia fell out of favour in the Sofapaka camp and Tusker could sign him permanently at the end of the season.

The player has in the last two seasons dipped in form, resulting in his being snubbed during national team selection. A proposed move to Europe in 2011 did not fall through after he lost his passport and visa just days before travelling for the trials.

Another planned move to Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia also failed to go through after Sofapaka declined to let him go at any cost.

On the other hand, the brewers have offloaded Benson Amianda and Andrew Murunga on loan to Talanta FC and KCB to make space for Brian Osumba and Clifford Alwanga whom they signed from KCB.

Meanwhile, KCB head coach Abdalla Juma insisted striker Paul Kiongera will not leave the club and is already in his plans for the 2014 season.

“Kiongera is a good addition to our squad, and we have already included him in our plans. He also wants to stay in the team. We are hope for a better performance in the league than last season,” said Abdalla.

In the last two weeks, Gor Mahia have been trying to woo him back after he left the club following the expiry of his loan deal on December 31.

Kiongera is on Gor Mahia’s list of players expected to take part in the Confederation of African Football Champions League that kicks off next month. His decision to return to KCB came after Gor had already submitted their list.

Elsewhere, former City Stars goalkeepers coach Charles Korea Omondi has joined Sony Sugar in a move the club said would help strengthen the team.

Sony Coach Zedekiah Otieno said Omondi would help boost their goalkeeping abilities.

“Omondi has a lot of experience and he understands the job. We lacked expertise in this area, especially last season. He is a good at reading a match and would be an asset as we begin our 2014 league campaign,” said Otieno on the club’s website.

Sony Sugar finished the league in the 11th place last season.
