NTSA: Beware of logbook scammers using our name!
The National Transport and Safety Authority-Kenya warns members of the public to be on the lookout for mobile phone scammers prying on unsuspecting members of the public with fake win text messages.
According to NTSA, the modus operandi of the mobile phone con artists is sending a congratulatory text to an unsuspecting subscriber claiming they have won a motorcycle and need to send cash for processing of their logbook.
The text from the anonymous number purported to be from an agent from the NTSA Headquarters demands a fee of Sh3,200 to allegedly process the motorcycle logbook under the name of the ‘winner’ before ‘delivery.’
On its official Facebook Page, the authority asked anyone who has received such a text to report to the nearest police station and not make any payments through the said mobile money transfer service.
NTSA clarified that the Transfer of ownership and processing of logbooks and all payments are done on the Transport Integrated Transport Management System (TIMS) through their website www.ntsa.go.ke.
