Raila is Cord’s presidential candidate, claims Alfred Mutua

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has predicted that Raila Odinga will be Cord’s presidential candidate in 2017.

The flamboyant politician was airing his views during a live political talk show on Thursday night.

Dr Mutua hinted that Mr Odinga’s candidature was the reason he was quitting the Wiper Democratic Movement to form the Maendeleo Chap Chap party.

“That is why we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in Cord because we want politics of development in Ukambani and across the country. If Musyoka was to be the flag bearer then the situation is different, but for now it is likely that Raila Odinga will be the Presidential flag bearer of Cord, or at the very least ODM,” Mutua opined.

CHOSEN CANDIDATE

Reacting to Mutua’s sentiments on the same platform, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo asked Mutua to prepare for a defeat in the forthcoming elections.

“He has made his choice of quitting Wiper, the consequences will be very deep and steep. If he doesn’t change his mind, then he will certainly be a one term Governor,” Maanzo claimed.

Cord is currently locked in a three way impasse over the choice of presidential flag bearer, with Odinga, Musyoka and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula all vying for the position.

The three co-principals have, despite openly arguing over the matter, promised to unveil the chosen candidate to Kenyans before or on January 2017.
