Expect rainy, flooded weekend, weatherman warns

The Kenya Meteorological Services has issued a warning of heavy downpour throughout the weekend that will spread into the coming week.

Kenya is on a widespread flood alert with torrential rainfall expected to begin on Saturday.

The weatherman has also issued a flood warning in urban areas asking people not to walk or drive in moving water.

“From Friday to Sunday, several places might experience moderate to heavy morning rains and afternoon/night showers. On Monday, moderate to heavy showers might occur in the afternoon,” read part of the weather update.

Western Kenya, which has experienced a slight reduction in rainfall in the last two days, will see more rains and floods this weekend.

“Rainfall amounts are expected to increase over much of the country in the second half of the forecast period,” Peter Ambenje, the head of meteorological services, said on Thursday in a forecast that ends on Monday.

The country has been experiencing heavy rains and floods for the past month resulting in death, extensive damage of property and disruption of network across the country.
