‘Rape doctor’ Mugo wa Wairimu in court, to be detained longer
Prosecution has been allowed to detain Mugo Wa Wairimu for 14 more days as investigations continue.
Mr Mugo was arraigned at a Nairobi court on Friday morning where prosecution applied to hold him longer in order to conduct more tests on him and his victims.
Prosecutor Jecinta Nyamosi told the court that Police need to search the suspect’s two clinics, extract data from his mobile phones and gather statements from his alleged victims.
Ms Nyamosi had initially asked to detained Mr Mugo for 30 days, but the magistrate declined saying two weeks are enough for police to conclude investigations.
Mr Mugo is linked to a video that showed “doctor” raping a sedated patient at the Prestige Health Care clinic in Githurai 44.
The video sparked widespread condemnation and outrage when it was first aired by Citizen TV on Sunday night.
Mugo Wa Wairimu was arrested on Thursday in Gitungo hotel, in Limuru town, while having lunch after wananchi had tipped the police of his whereabouts.
