Ruto owns up to fathering child out of wedlock

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday owned up to fathering a daughter out of wedlock and even shared details of the support he has been extending to her.

In a tweet, Mr Ruto revealed that the daughter is now in her early teens and was born when he was then serving as a Kanu MP for Eldoret North constituency.

The rare revelation was in response to a suit by the baby’s mother who accused the deputy president of failing to take care of the child.

Mr Ruto, in his tweet, linked the suit to “politicians and busybodies”.

Mr Ruto is married to Rachel Ruto and they have children.

Through lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, Mr Ruto’s baby mama accuses him of refusing to provide them with essential needs like food, decent clothing and a place of stay.

She also claims in the case documents that, as a result, their child is bound to “suffer irreparable loss to healthy growth and good educational development.”

The woman wants more than Sh160, 000 in cash every month plus a high lifestyle bankrolled by the DP.

She also wants “adequate medical cover,” school fees “in a school that reflects upon the Defendant’s status as the Deputy President” and a vehicle to enable her pick and drop their child to and from school and “other places she might need to go.”

She claims to have started a romantic relationship with Mr Ruto back in 2005 while still as student at Moi University.
