Sabina Chege now calls for parallel Jubilee party NDC
A splinter group of the Jubilee party led by Sabina Chege has now called for a Special National Delegates Convention on July 23, 2023.
The said meeting will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, in Nairobi.
The gathering comes after another meeting held on June 6, 2023, in which the Sabina group resolved to, among others, declare the deliberations of a separate meeting attended by former president Uhuru Kenyatta as null and void.
Incidentally, the meeting attended by Mr Kenyatta and a section of Azimio politicians including Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka resolved to suspend Sabina Chege and his team including Kanini Kega.
The Uhuru meeting was held at May 22, 2023, at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.
“The NEC resolved to organize a Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) scheduled to take place on July 22, 2023, at the Kenyatta International Conference Center. This convention aims to address the pressing matters within the party and solidify its internal cohesion. A formal notice convening the SNDC will be dispatched to party members in accordance with the Party’s constitution,” a statement by the Sabina group reads in part.
“The meeting has also resolved that the Party will hold a Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) at the Kenyatta International Conference Center on the 22 July, 2023. A Notice convening the SNDC will be sent out in due course as required by the Party constitution,” it read.
The woes within the Jubilee party commenced in the run up to the August 2022 polls when Deputy President William Ruto led more than 100 MPs in walking out of the party weeks to the polls following political differences with Mr Kenyatta.
Mr Kenyatta has publicly indicated he intends to remain actively in politics despite his retirement as Head of State, a move that has put him in crossroads with his successor alongside Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
