Semalang’o now casts eye on Mathare seat

Recently ousted chairman of Youth Fund Gor Semelang’o now has his eyes set on the vacant Mathare parliamentary seat.

Mr Semelang’o said he was in the race to clinch the seat should the Supreme Court rule on for fresh voting  on Tuesday.

He would vie as an independent candidate, he added.

The Court of Appeal declared the Mathare seat vacant after nullifying the election of Mr George Wanjohi (TNA) on grounds that he was not validly elected.

Mr Stephen Kariuki (ODM) had lodged an appeal against his win stating that a returning officer who  was not constitutionally mandated recalled and cancelled his victory certificate which was handed over to Mr Wanjohi.

Mr Wanjohi lodged an objection against the appellate court’s decision at the Supreme court whose ruling is now being awaited.

Mr Semalang’o urged Mathare residents to stand by him if the top court opts for fresh polls.

“We hope that the court will rule that elections go on,” he said.
