Top prosecutor defies police summons for wife battery
A senior prosecutor accused of assaulting his wife and inflicting bodily harm on her on Sunday has not honored summons to the police station.
Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel Fredrick Ashimosi allegedly assaulted Purity Murithi Ashimosi early morning at their home in Buruburu Estate.
SUMMONED
She reported the matter at the Buruburu Police Station under the OB Number; 4/13/03/08 prompting the police to summon the counsel to the police station.
By 3pm Thursday, the lawyer, who has been prosecuting several high profile cases, had not honored the summons and the police had not arrested him.
His wife said that Mr Ashimosi, to whom she has been married for 15 years, has been assaulting her and she lost her two teeth during one of the assault episodes.
“I have been reporting these cases to the police stations but he keeps telling me that nothing will happen to him because he is a high ranking prosecutor,” his wife said.
CLEANED BLOOD
She said her husband has assaulted her in the presence of their two of the children, and that in the latest case that happened on Sunday he cleaned the blood and the broken furniture before the police arrived.
“He arrived home late at night and I was preparing to go to church. Some church members started calling me to inquire where I was because we were all supposed to travel using my car.
“That is when he started arguing and he became violent. He started by slapping me then punching me, before pushing me to a glass table which broke as a result and hurt me,” she said.
A medical report from the St Veronica Health Centre indicates that she sustained deep cut injuries on her hand and neck.
She also had a memory lapse and was bleeding profusely.
Police records at the Buruburu Police station show that Ms Murithi had reported several incidents of domestic violence against her lawyer husband since April 2008.
SEPARATED
When contacted on phone, the lawyer said he had wrongfully be accused and that he was long separated from Ms Murithi.
On further scrutiny though, the lawyer admitted that there was a fight at the house but it was occasioned by a flower vessel that the lady threw at him while he was parking in preparation to a journey to Rift Valley.
“I have never assaulted her and the reason I moved out of the house is because I realized that she had another man,” Mr Ashimosi said.
