TikToker frustrated by Boma Yangu housing platform wants money back

In a TikTok video that has stirred attention and frustration, popular content creator Govedi Masonkole shared his harrowing experience with the Boma Yangu Affordable Housing Program, a key initiative under President Ruto’s government.

Masonkole claims that his attempt to purchase a house through the platform turned into a nightmarish ordeal of lost money and unfulfilled promises.

In the video posted on his TikTok account, Masonkole expressed his discontent with the Boma Yangu platform, narrating how he paid Sh125,000 on November 1, 2023 to book a studio apartment listed for Sh1.25 million.

The units, supposedly being constructed by Kings Development in Ruiru, Kiambu County, appeared to have an option to book with a partial payment.

Masonkole asserted in the video. “I went through the entire process, the OTP and all, putting in the OTP, and I waited for it to update, my friend, nothing happened.”

Despite the M-Pesa transaction confirming the payment to the National Housing Fund, Masonkole claims that the Boma Yangu system did not reflect any update, and the units still showed as available on the website.

Frustrated by the lack of responsiveness on the platform, he attempted to reach out for support.

Masonkole detailed his struggle to find a way to voice his concerns or seek assistance on the Boma Yangu section of the eCitizen platform.

Faced with the absence of complaint avenues or feedback mechanisms, he resorted to reaching out via email, expressing his dissatisfaction and seeking clarification on the status of his payment.

“To be honest, I don’t know how that works. I am tired. I just want my money back,” Masonkole pleaded in the video. “I’ve just found out there’s a bidding system, and I don’t know how that works. If someone knows, please let me know.”

Masonkole concluded by expressing his desire for a refund, stating that he no longer wants the house and prefers a direct transaction with Kings Development, the alleged builders of the property.

The video has sparked discussions on social media platforms, with some users expressing solidarity with Masonkole and demanding transparency and accountability from the Boma Yangu platform.
