Ulinzi man Otuoma off to Zanzibar with newly wedded sweetheart for honeymoon

For any player, being told you will be out for four weeks is the worst news that you will want to receive especially after joining a new team where you were slowly working on cementing a starting role.

It is devastating to imagine that you will be out of training and competitive action for that long.

But for one player, it has turned out to be some pretty good news. Ulinzi Stars winger Ezekiel Otuoma, who wedded his sweetheart Rachel Otieno on Saturday in a colourful wedding in Nairobi, will be using his time out to take his wife to the island nation of Zanzibar for their honeymoon.

Otuoma picked up a shin injury two weeks ago and will be out of action for a further two weeks before resuming training.

“We have been in Mombasa since Sunday enjoying our new life as husband and wife and we are now heading out to Zanzibar for the big honeymoon. It is a good life, I am enjoying it so far. Graduating from a boy to a man is great,” Otuoma said.

THE PROPOSAL

The two wedded on Saturday, a ceremony that ended a fairy tale one and a half year courtship. The two met in December 2013 at a mutual friend’s birthday party and they have never looked behind since then.

“I had been invited by a friend to a party at his home and there, I met this lovely lady. She really impressed me with her beauty and wonderful smile. She was all alone and so was I and I thought, why not,” Otuoma narrates.

“I asked her out, and of course just like every other city girl, she took me in unending circles. But I never gave up until finally she agreed to go out with me,” he says.

Otuoma popped up the big question in August last year and they have been planning their big day since then.

“It was after a match we won, I was still at Muhoroni Youth. In celebration, we went out with a couple of friends and team mates and there, I popped the big question. She thought I was playing around with her but when I finally held the ring in my hand, she said yes,” Otuoma recalls.

“I am now a settled man and I believe this will help me focus more on my career. She has always been present whenever I am playing and her support has been immense. She is my number one fan.”
