US Secretary of State Blinken calls Mudavadi to congratulate him on new CS role

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday called Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to congratulate him on his new role as the Foreign Cabinet Secretary while expressing appreciation for Kenya’s significant contributions to global peace and stability.

The two leaders, according to a statement released by Spokesperson Matthew Miller, exchanged views on Kenya-US relations and issues of mutual interest, including regional peace and security.

“Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi to congratulate him on his appointment as Foreign Minister,” the statement read in part.

According to Miller, Blinken expressed appreciation for Kenya’s longstanding strategic partnership with the United States and its significant contributions to global peace and stability.

During their telephone conversation, Blinken thanked Kenya for announcing its intent to lead a multinational security support mission to Haiti, addressing the crisis in Sudan, promoting peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and countering extremism in Somalia.

He reaffirmed the two countries’ shared democratic values and welcomed the deepening economic partnership between the United States and Kenya to the benefit of Kenyans and Americans alike.

In his first cabinet reshuffle last month, President William Ruto expanded Mudavadi’s portfolio assigning him the foreign ministry docket which was previously held by Alfred Mutua who was moved to Tourism.

After the appointment, Mudavadi who is now the focal point for Kenya’s foreign policy tasked with advancing Kenya’s agenda globally said that he was fully aware of the significance of his dual role.

“I embrace the opportunity with a profound sense of duty and dedication. I pledge to continue serving the people of Kenya and our country with unwavering commitment, integrity, and diligence. I will continue to champion, pursue, and protect the interests of Kenyans, both within our borders and abroad,” he said.
