Eliud Owalo delivers brand new bus to Gor Mahia, vows to build stadium
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has vowed to aid Gor Mahia construct a modern stadium and furnished club.
To which the club fans shouted; “We also want an aeroplane.”
Mr Owalo spoke on November 11, 2023, during the unveiling of a state of the art modern bus to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side.
Sudi Jaimbo, a self proclaimed Gor Mahia fan shouted;
‘I want to preach inside a plane’ as he danced to Ohangla maestro Prince Indah’s Mashabiki which sent fans into a frenzy mood.
These were some of the entertaining events as Gor Mahia unveiled the new team bus in a colourful event.
The procession commenced from Mombasa Road onto Eastlands and then to Kasarani Stadium.
Hundreds of Gor Mahia fans braved the chilly morning weather to go to General Motors shop along Mombasa road to take their new art modern sleek 42 seater bus.
Not even the light showers of the El Nino rains could deter them from the historical event which marked the end of ridicule of not having a bus like other Football Kenya Federation Premier League clubs.
Moving in slow motion and the bus snaked to Enterprise Road, Lunga Lunga, Jogoo road, City Stadium Roundabout, Machakos Bus Station before being blessed ‘via’ a ritual at Tom Mboya Statue then proceeded to Kasarani.
On board was Owalo and his family, Gor Mahia officials lead by Chairman Ambrose Rachier and Sam Ochola as well as players Dolph Owino, Lloyd Khavuchi and Caleb Omondi.
As the convoy moved, so did the fans also increase.
At Tom Mboya statue, it was song and dance and as fans made proclamations which would save the bus from any evil including being nabbed by auctioneers as the previous small one back in March.
While addressing enthusiastic fans Owalo said he was happy to have delivered on the promise he made to the club and now his focus is on ensuring Gor have a modern stadium and a clubhouse.
“I’m happy to have delivered on my promise to the club. Now focus is on the club house and stadium to ensure this club gets to the level of other big teams. I thank all friends who we have walked with in this journey,” said Owalo on dias as fans cheered and other legends who played for the club before.
“How many are happy and want us to continue helping the club. I have been a fan of the club since 1980 and we should be together at all-time whether the club is down or doing well,” added the Cs as he joined in dancing Prince Indah Wuod Janabi, Osiepe.
He then flagged the bus signaling that Gor Mahia fans and community can now use it for the various club activities.
The event was also attended by representatives of various organisations including Kenya Commercial bank, and Equity who were among those who marshalled the resources in purchasing the bus.
For the legends who graced the occasion it is a dream come true for Gor to own a new bus and the future will be bright under the guidance of the Cs who has shown he is a true Gor Mahia legend.
“Let us stick together as Gor Mahia family because this is our team. We won Mandela Cup and as legends we are now happy on the route the club has taken and the support we are getting from our leaders like the Cs. This is the best thing to have happened to the club,” said Austin Odhiambo who was the captain when Gor Mahia won the cup in 1987.
“I’m happy and want to thank the CS and as former players we now want the current team to win the league then we shall go far,” said John Bobby Ogola.
An inside tour of the bus shows just how luxurious it is. It has Wifi which operates all the time and has piped music which will be entertaining players when they win and consoling them perhaps when they lose.
It also has polo generation two (POLO G2) , USB Charging sockets, foldable clean and clear TV with Supersport paid for all the time and a galaxy roof lighting. The seats are also above class as there are configuration four VIP seats like the one in a presidential jet while others are full luxury 2 by 2 seats.
