Nyashinski latest celebrity to hit out at Government over high cost of living

Rapper Nyashinski has added his voice to the growing chorus of artists expressing discontent with the government’s handling of the surging cost of living.

In his song ‘Wach Wach,’ released three years, Nyashinski criticizes government actions, highlighting a line that translates to, “Hii gava itasanyia hata mamatha vibeti. Wach Wach ndio venye naskia,” suggesting the government’s impact on the common citizen.

The song’s lyrics delve into themes of corruption, with lines like “Mwizi atakuibia walenje ukidedi,” drawing attention to the effects of theft on ordinary people.

Nyashinski’s fan Peru Gang resonated with his sentiments, humorously suggesting they may need to pool resources for basic documents like birth certificates or apply early before the government raises costs beyond affordability.

The government’s recent announcement of revised charges for various services, including passports, IDs, work permits, and birth certificates, has fueled public discontent.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, in a gazette notice dated November 7, 2023, disclosed the adjustments in fees.

Notably, the fee for a standard 34-page passport application has surged to Ksh.7,500 from Ksh.4,500, with similar increases for other passport categories.

While replacing a lost passport will now cost Ksh.20,000, doubling the previous fee, the government has removed the Ksh.3,000 charge for temporary passports.

However, an express passport will incur a cost of Ksh.30,000. First-time ID applicants will now pay Ksh.1,000, marking a significant change from the previously free issuance, and replacing lost IDs will require a payment of Ksh.1,000, a tenfold increase from the current Ksh.100.

In September, Nonini also voiced his disapproval of the nation’s current state, prompting him to retract his previous support on the Kenya Kwanza regime.

“Looking back at how our country is faring a year down the line with this government, I want to share my apology loudly to Kenyans for supporting this government and some leaders. You know I did,” Nonini stated.

On September 17, social media influencer Huddah Monroe also made a striking reversal of her long-standing endorsement of President William Ruto.

In a bold and unapologetic statement, Huddah Monroe ranked Ruto as the worst president Kenya has ever had, expressing grave concerns about the country’s economic state under his leadership.

Her critique came amid Kenya’s rising fuel costs and soaring prices of essential food items.

“Ruto will be the worst president Kenya has ever seen,” said.

The Kenya Kwanza government has been under intense scrutiny, with a recent Infotrak survey revealing that 53% of Kenyans believe the nation is heading in the wrong direction.

On Wednesday, November 9th, President Ruto spoke before a joint session of the National Assembly and the Senate, affirming his commitment to fulfilling every promise made to the Kenyan people.

“The process of transforming Kenya for future generations is already in motion,” Ruto said.

He noted that the implemented plan has begun yielding positive results, emphasizing the continuous efforts to propel the country forward despite encountering challenges from the very outset.
