Volleyball star Maiyo splashes out Sh 7million on new Range Rover


Kenya volleyball team captain Phillip Maiyo has forked out an estimated Sh 7 million to buy a state-of-the-art Range Rover Sport.

The Qatar-based player posted the photo of his expensive and stylish ride on social media on Saturday afternoon.

The Facebook post prompted a flurry of comments and congratulatory messages from his fans, friends and relatives.

This development comes barely 72 hours after he helped his club win a second successive league title and was named most valuable player (MVP) in the Emir Cup tournament, a competition that consists top teams in Asia.

Maiyo turns out for Al Arabi Volleyball Club in Qatar, where he is said to earn a monthly salary of Sh 1.5 million excluding endorsements and bonuses.

The Kenya international player hails from a sporting family with his younger sister Lydia Maiyo also a star player with both the Kenya Prisons volleyball club and the national team.

Maiyo has helped his club win the Qatar top flight league and club on two occasions in the last three seasons.

The 28 year old now joins Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and world 800m record holder David Rudisha who are the other Kenyan sports personalities who own a similar car.
