Westgate: Police detain student


Police are holding a high school student on suspicion of being a member of the Al- Shabaab militia.

The student was arrested on Monday evening at the Muranga Road Mixed Secondary School after he was implicated by intelligence reports.

On Tuesday, officers from the Ant-Terrorism Police Unit were interrogating the form three teenager. They hoped that he could give crucial information that will help in the fight against terror.

“The police hunted the boy following information that he was a member of Al-Shabaab, but we are still treating him as a suspect,” Starehe OCPD Samuel Anampiu said.

A National Intelligence Service report leaked last week showed that Al Shabaab was recruiting members from among high school students. The report named several high profile schools in the capital city.

At the same time, three terror suspects were arrested in Pangani’s Metro Fairview Plaza’s seventh floor, where they had been living for an unknown period.
