Woman charged with stabbing ex-husband in love triangle drama

A 28–year–old woman who allegedly stabbed her ex-husband in the stomach after finding him with his girlfriend is facing charges of causing grievous harm contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code.

Ms Susan Maina is accused of inflicting serious injuries on Peter Njogu at his house at the Patanisho area in Soweto within Embakasi in Nairobi on November 12, 2023.

The offence is punishable by life imprisonment and a minimum of 10 years jail term upon conviction.

Ms Maina and Njogu had separated but the suspect went to the complainant’s house where she found him with another woman and a fight ensued before she allegedly took a knife and stabbed him.

Mr. Njogu’s girlfriend – Esther Wangui, who intervened to rescue him allegedly used the same knife to stab Ms Maina.

Ms Wangu, 40, has also been charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the Penal Code where she is accused of injuring Ms Maina.

Ms Maina had earlier called Njogu but Wangui answered the call and told her never to call him again.

However, Ms Maina knocked on the door and immediately after Wangui opened, she stormed into the house and the fight started.

Ms Wangui and Njogu raised an alarm and their neighbours responded and helped them subdue and throw Ms Maina out of the house.

The matter was later reported to the police as Njogu was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi for treatment.

Ms Wangui had lodged a complaint against Ms Maina but police investigations established that she had injured her boyfriend’s ex-wife and charged both, separately.

They both denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Gerald Mutiso of Makadara Law Courts. The court heard from an advocate that there were ongoing negotiations to settle the matters.

Mutiso summoned Njogu to appear in court on December 14 and confirm the same.

Ms Maina was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount without an option of a cash bail while Ms Wangui was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh20, 000.
