Youths storm Kisumu governor’s office demanding Sh1.5m to attend Raila ‘swearing in’
A section of Kisumu youth on Monday stormed the county governor’s office demanding Sh1.5 million facilitation to attend the ‘swearing in’ ceremony of Nasa leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.
They claimed the Sh100, 000 given to them by the county government could not cater for the more than 400 Nasa supporters who had expressed interest in going for the much-anticipated fete.
Earlier on, Nasa supporters from western were on Monday preparing to travel to Nairobi to attend the ‘swearing in’ of Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
This despite a warning from the police that they will not allow the event to take place.
Elected leaders from Nyanza region have hired more than 50 buses to ferry Nasa supporters for the planned ceremony.
The leaders including Governors, MPs and MCAs have lined up buses, 14-seater matatus and private vehicles which will ferry supporters to Nairobi.
NASA SUPPORTERS
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has offered a total of 18 buses, three in each of the six sub-counties in his region that will be used to transport any willing Nasa supporter to Nairobi for the occasion.
“I want my supporters to witness this historic occasion. I will give them some small allowance as well as sodas and bread during the journey,” said Mr Rasanga.
Apart from the governor, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has also offered five buses for his constituents who are willing to travel to Nairobi.
He maintained that the venue will be Uhuru Park and that no amount of intimidation will stop Nasa supporters from accessing the venue.
“We will not be stopped this time round. We are serious and all we want is to redeem this country,” said Mr Atandi.
Mr Kennedy Ajwang’, who is the coordinator of Nyanza Peoples Assembly, said that every MP has been mandated to facilitate travelling of the Nasa supporters in their respective constituencies.
