Kidero insists NYS kits used for voter listing in Jubilee strongholds

February 19th, 2017 1 min read

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero maintains that members of the National Youth Service (NYS) used biometric registration kits to register voters in the city.

Dr Kidero on Sunday demanded that the names of those registered by the 200 NYS kits be made public and expunged from the IEBC voters register.

He warned of unspecified consequences if the names are not removed from the register.

He claimed the registration was done at midnight and only in Jubilee strongholds.

Dr Kidero made the claims during a church service at Calvary Covenant Centre in Komarock. He was accompanied with former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa.

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki last week denied claims of NYS youths recruiting voters.

Ms Kariuki explained that the NYS youths were using the machines in the registration of beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Programme to streamline identification, payment and management of groups.
