62-year-old clergyman arrested for defiling daughter, 7
A 62-year-old man was on Tuesday evening arrested for allegedly defiling his seven-year old daughter at Sirikwa Kware area in Eldoret town.
The suspect, a church elder, is reported to have repeatedly defiled his Standard One daughter at his home after parting ways with his wife.
It is reported that the child confided to a woman who is their neighbour of her father’s action.
“The scared child approached me while I was doing laundry I was not sure what she had in mind but I encouraged her to tell me whatever it was. That is when she told me that her father has been defiling her every night and threaten her not to tell anyone,” said Christine Akoth who later reported the issue to the Baharini police post.
The child was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for examination where doctors confirmed of her being defiled.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Baharini police post where he is being held awaiting to be arraigned in court for incest charges.
The mother of the victim told the Nation on phone that she did not expect a mature man to commit such heinous act to his own daughter.
“I was not around when it happened since I left him three months ago due to a domestic dispute. I pleaded with him to allow me to leave with my children but he refused so I did not expect him to commit such taboo act for he is the father of our children,” the shocked the mother of 10 children said.
Eldoret West police boss Samuel Mutunga said cases of defilements have been on the rise in the region and called on concerted efforts from all stakeholders in a bid to control the situation.
