New sevens coach Treu unveiled
Newly-appointed Kenya Sevens Head Coach Paul Treu set a top 10 finish as his priority for the 2013/2014 IRB World Sevens Series.
During his unveiling in Nairobi day, the South African said he would take things a step at a time but that finishing in the top 10 was not negotiable for the team.
“We will take it a step at a time, the key objective is to finish in the top ten this season,” said Treu.
Treu’s arrival has widened the technical bench, with Vuyo Zangqa taking over as his assistant, alongside Felix Ochieng and Humphrey Kayange, who is also part of the playing unit.
Graham Bentz is now the strength and conditioning coach, and will be assisted by Mike Owino and Geoffrey Kimani.
Karen Schwabe takes over as team doctor, but her arrival was pushed to January.
Treu’s fast task is the Dubai and Port Elizabeth Sevens being his first assignments on the first two weekends of next month.
The post fell vacant after Englishman Mike Friday resigned as Head Coach after the Moscow World Cup in June.
Ochieng took over the hot seat in a caretaker capacity.
Treu won the 2008/2009 IRB World Sevens Series with South Africa.
He signed a three-year deal that will see him take home a salary of sh935,000 beside other allowances.
