Kidero’s bouncer: Autopsy reveals last moments of Evans Okoda’s death

A bouncer who provided security for former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has died of severe brain damage and excessive bleeding, a post-mortem has revealed.

Evans Okoda, 35, was murdered near his rented house in Oyugis town after spending the night with friends at a local bar on Thursday, May 2. Some of the fingers on his right hand were cut off, as was his tongue. The deceased’s face was also disfigured.

A post-mortem examination at the Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital mortuary revealed that his brain had been severely damaged.

Doctor Tobias Ocholla, who performed the autopsy, wrote in his medical report that the deceased had deep wounds on his face that were inflicted by a sharp object.

Okoda was a common figure at political events, especially during the 2022 gubernatorial campaigns, where he provided security to Dr Kidero in particular.

The circumstances of his death are not clear.

Rachuonyo South police commander Lilies Wachira said investigations revealed that the deceased left his home for some activities in Oyugis town on Thursday morning.
He was last seen in a local bar.

His neighbours were shocked when they discovered the body outside his house on Friday morning, May 3.

It is thought that he may have been killed during a heavy downpour.

“It rained heavily during the night and no one heard any commotion during the attack,” Ms Wachira said.
She said an investigation had been launched into Okoda’s death.

“Nobody knows the motive behind the murder and the people who killed Okoda have not been identified,” Ms Wachira said.

The body was taken to the mortuary at Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital in Oyugis town.

Okoda’s death sparked protests in Oyugis town on Friday morning.

Dr Kidero called on the authorities to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.

“Okoda was part of my security detail during the 2022 General Elections campaign period and his brutal murder has cast a dark cloud,” he said.
