Samurai Wakulima wins Masaku Sevens title

Samurai Wakulima won the 2015 Masaku Sevens event after beating Top Fry Nakuru 32-0 in the Cup final on Sunday at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Wakulima made up of past and current Kenya internationals put on a stellar performance to lift the gong in a one-sided final.

Skipper Patrice Agunda led from the front scoring his team’s opening try.

Wakulima coach Lavin Asego said: “Kudos to the boys. They had only two training sessions and we came here and displayed our best. The boys can now go to their various clubs with their heads held high.”

Michael Agevi exchanged passes with Biko Ademo before leaving the Nakuru defence for dead to score the try. Oscar Ouma landed over for Wakulima’s third try for a 15- 0 half time lead.

Dan Sikuta powered past the Wanyore defence before Cyprian Kuto added another one as Wakulima turned on resumption.

Adema successful converted before Horace Otieno extended his team’s lead with another try
Wakulima had earlier eliminated Homeboyz 24-7 in the semi-final while Nakuru were 12-0 winners over Young Turks.

Oscar Ayodi opened the scoring with a third minute try before Biko Adema successfully converted to give his team a 7-0 lead.

Before Homeboyz could recover, Michael Wanjala added another try scoring in between the posts.

Homeboyz did settle down and pulled a try back through Kelvin Masai with Augustine Lugonzo converting as they trailed Wakulima 7-12 going into the break.

International Leonard Mugaisi, playing for Homeboyz, sustained a serious knee injury.
