AFC Leopards coach to face probe for abusing a journalist

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has said that it will investigate a case in which AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems verbally abused a journalist.

The Belgian coach was heard referring to a journalist as stupid in his post-match comments after his side’s league clash against Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma.

FKF Chief Executive Barry Otieno said the incident would be forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee. “We will also give him an opportunity to explain his side of the story,” confirmed Otieno.

On Sunday, Aussems while responding to a question by a journalist said, “You, you are stupid my friend,” and repeated the exact words.

The said journalist had asked the coach why he did not leave the field of play after he was red-carded against Nzoia. Nairobi News understands it was Leopards goalkeeping coach Patrick Webo who received the red card, not Aussems.

“It’s Webo who received the red card not me. You are stupid. In fact, let me see your name… please do not ask me any other question,” added Aussems.

Still expressing discontent over the match, Aussems tweeted that four clowns refereed the game, but fortunately, the two teams remained calm adding that in Kenya the best referees are women.

Leopards drew 0-0 with Nzoia in the match. A former Belgian league-based defender, Aussems has been in charge at Leopards for the past 18 months.

He’s in the past managed Tanzania’s Simba, Sudan’s Al Hilal, and South Africa’s Black Leopards with relative success.

However, he has struggled to get things going at Leopards, with the team struggling to compete against the likes of Gor Mahia and Tusker in the Kenyan Premier League.

Having started his coaching career in 1992, Auseems has coached football teams in over five countries; Congo, Tanzania, Cameroon, Benin, Sudan, and now Kenya.
