American boss steps in to raise funds for bereaved Kenyan employee

A Kenyan national who lost his brother while in the US has gotten a reprieve after his boss stepped in raise funds to enable him travel home foe the burial.

Daniel Flick, who works with Sunrise Senior Living, has set up a GoFundMe seeking to raise funds for his “favourite” employee, who happens to be a Kenyan, to attend his elder brother’s funeral in Kenya.

In the crowdfunding platform, Mr Flick heaped praises on the employee urging people to come through for him. He says the company is willing to contribute Sh112,500 ($900) for a round trip airfare for the employee only identified as Paul.

“Hi, my name is Dan. One of my exemplary employees is from Kenya. His brother recently passed away from a case of malaria. I’m trying to raise money for him so he can go back to Kenya to be with his wife, child and family to mourn the loss of his older brother who was only 40 years old at the time of his death,” Mr Flick said.

“My company, Sunrise Senior Living will donate approximately $900 to help with the round trip airfare but we need to raise an additional $3000 to cover the rest of the airfare and to give Paul money to help with the funeral and other items on his way to Kenya and back to the US,” he says.

According to Mr Flick, Paul is one of the best employees he has ever had the pleasure of working with.

“I have worked with Paul for two years and he always has a smile on his face and is never in a bad mood. He will do anything you ask and more. If Paul sees something that needs to be done, he just does it. No questions asked,” he said.

So far, Sh72,000 has been raised out of Sh375,000 that Mr Flick is seeking to raise.
