American rapper Fabolous to perform in Nairobi


American hip hop artiste Fabolous is expected to perform in Nairobi on August 10 at Sk8city that recently opened its doors on the top floor of Diamond Plaza II in Nairobi.

Fabolous, whose real name is John David Jackson, is known for his musical collaborations with R&B artistes in the early 2000s such as Into You (Tamia), Shawty Is a 10 (The Dream), Addiction (Ryan Leslie), She Got Her Own (Jamie Foxx), Say Aah by Trey Songz and Make Me Better featuring Ne-Yo.

Fabolous is the recipient of several awards include the BET Awards and the American Music Awards. He also been nominated for two Grammy Awards in Best Collaboration section.

Sk8city is a new chill spot with an indoor skating rink that opened last month. It channels a Y2K (early 2000s) vibe with neon signs and disco lights while a DJ plays an assortment of music which is heavily influenced by R&B from the early 2000s. It is the first indoor rollerskating rink in East Africa.

The skating rink is open to people of all ages during the day then it transforms into a nightclub at night until 3am. The facility also hosts theme nights and events setup such as Throwback Thursdays.

Sk8city will host a Barbie Friday on July 28 for fans to watch the newly released Barbie movie at Anga cinema, roller-skate sessions and refreshments for Sh2,000.

Tickets for the event are retailing at Sh5,000 (regular), Sh10,000 (VIP) and Sh20,000 (VVIP) inclusive of refreshments.

“We change the skating rink into an arena for performances like this which we hope to have more of,” said Sk8city CEO Clifford.

Apart from the rink, the facility also has a mini arcade at the corner of the carpeted lounge area. Spectators can have a better aerial view from the sitting area in the open upper section of the rink.

Since its opening, the skating rink has been attracted roller skaters. Skaters are provided with lockers to keep their belongings while they skate. On a regular day, skates are rented out at Sh2,000 for adults and Sh1,500 for children. Those interested in owning a pair of their own can purchase a pair at Sh22,000.
