Big names hit rough patch at the Junior Golf Foundation

Big names in the Junior Golf Foundation US Kids Fall Local Tour had a rough time in the third leg event played at the Sigona Golf Club on Sunday, March 4th.

After a rusty first leg at Vetlab and the second leg in Limuru, the third leg was expected to now showcase real competition as the junior players shake off the long holiday blues.

In the boys 13-14 years category, top players Amar Shah, Aidan Gachora, and Tsorav Soni were nowhere near the podium. The day belonged to Yuvraj Rajput with an impressive score of 77. He was followed by Alpha Ndungu with a score of 83, and Justin Ngeera one stroke behind with a score of 84.

Amar Shah was relegated to the eighth position with a score of 92, one of his poorest in the recent past. He was not alone; Aidan Gachora finished tenth with a score of 95 while Tsorav Soni was 13th with a score of 99.

“Nothing really worked for me today as much as I tried. It was just a bad day for me, really,” said Amar.

In the girls 13-14 years category, Amelia Sheikh emerged the best with a score of 90 with Yolanda Yu coming in second with a score of 91. Marya Nyambura was one stroke behind with a score of 92 as Sophia Nesbitt, winner of the previous round was relegated to fourth with a score of 93. Only four shots separated the top four players in a closely contested duel.

“Im very happy to win today, coming up on top in a very competitive group is humbling for me,” said Amelia.

In the girls’ 9-10 years category, Zianna Khoda won in a playoff against Irene Asiyo. Both finished with a score of 43, forcing the play-off to pick the winner. Ashley Gachora with a score of 45, finished third, and Aria Dodhia ended up fourth with a score of 47.

With the elite squad still in the Kenya team training camp, Jabari Ongwae continues to impress in the boys 15-18 with a score of 97. Garcia Maina and Zameer Nanji also ended up on the podium with a tied score of 98.

A total of 167 players took part in the tournament, the highest entries being in the boys 13-14 years category with 22 entries.
