Body of 9-year-old boy found dumped in a river

Detectives in Kagio town, Kirinyaga county have launched investigations into the death of a 9-year-old grade 3 pupil who was found dead after he went missing on Friday.

Residents of Kagio town were shocked after her body was found on Sunday night dumped in river Rwamuthambi, with visible signs of defilement and strangulation.

The mother of the child told the police that she got worried after her daughter did not return home on Friday and went to seek help from her neighbours who also circulated and shared the news within the locality. She also reported the matter at Kagio Police Station.

According to some area residents, the girl was last seen in the company of a trader who sells milk.

Police said the residents then went looking for the girl at the man’s rented house at 2am but the man was not there. Police are looking for the suspect who is yet to return home since Friday.

The body was found after a pipe in Rwamuthambi river blocked the body from being washed down stream as it would have taken days to find it.

“We are looking for the man who is well known to the girl’s mother, detectives are on him,” Kirinyaga West Sub-county police commander Moses Koskei said.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the suspected drowning of a six-year-old boy in Nairobi River.

The body was recovered in Mwiki on May 14 evening by residents who suspected he was swept downstream.

Police suspect the boy drowned as he crossed the raging waters and that he might have drowned on the same day as he left school given he was dressed in uniform on a Sunday when his body was found.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
