Bungle la Mwananchi chairman Francis Awino comments on relationship with Gaucho

Bunge la Mwananchi president, Francis Awino has dismissed rumuors suggesting a strained relationship between him and his predecessor Calvince Okoth, popularly referred to as Gaucho in political circles.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Awino emphasized that Gaucho is a close friend of his.

“Those insinuating that there’s discord between Gaucho and me are utterly mistaken. We maintain a strong friendship, and our communication is frequent,” Awino affirmed.

Moreover, Awino highlighted the invaluable support he receives from Gaucho, emphasizing their regular consultations.

“Gaucho has been a guiding light for me; his counsel has proven invaluable. I have nothing but gratitude for his assistance,” he added.

These statements come amidst speculations about their alleged rift.

One particular point of contention has been the absence of public acknowledgment from Gaucho since Awino assumed office in December 2023.

Despite this, Awino remains undeterred, expressing his appreciation for Gaucho’s mentorship and guidance.

Notably, no photographic evidence has surfaced depicting Gaucho and Awino together, further fueling speculation.

On the flip side, Gaucho, a prominent figure who spearheaded the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya anti-government protests last year, aimed at alleviating the burden of living costs, has been adopting titles such as ‘Ghetto President’ or ‘Bunge President’ even after Awino assumed office.

This has further fueled speculation regarding their purported strained relationship.

Gaucho has earned widespread recognition as the ‘Bunge la Mwananchi President’ due to his active involvement in politics and his close associations with Azimio la Umoja leaders like Raila Odinga.

His prominent role in these circles has led to his moniker and contributed to the speculation surrounding his dynamic with Awino.

Awino succeeded Gaucho last year after the social movement conducted elections at Jivanjee Gardens in Nairobi.

This transition marked a significant shift in leadership within the movement, further adding to the intrigue surrounding their relationship.
