Scandal of the runaway dads
Runaway dads are causing a rapid rise in women seeking child support.
They are escaping family life because of increased poverty, unemployment and marital problems, one expert said.
In Nairobi county 4,024 children needed financial support between July and September 2011.
The number rose to 5,321 in the next three months, from October to December.
Between January and March 2012, the number rose to 5,362, and then 5,880 children from April to the end of June.
The number fell to 2,617 between January and March last year —but experts warned that the number increased almost six-fold towards the end of the year.
