Let’s meet on the ballot box, city MP tells Nairobi Governor
Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru has revealed that plans to oust Dr Evans Kidero as Nairobi Governor come 2017 general elections.
The youthful politician said he was ready to offer Nairobi fresh leadership arguing that it was time for change.
He said in the absence of Mr Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as ‘Baba Yao’, who is eyeing the Kiambu gubernatorial seat, time was ripe for him to go for the city’s top seat.
“Now that Waititu is out of the (Nairobi County) race, it will now be you and me come 2017,” Mr Waweru told Dr Kidero Sunday at PCEA Bahati church.
On April this year, Central Kenya MPs endorsed the Dagoretti South legislator for the seat.
KIDERO’S COMPETITORS
But since then Mr Waweru, a strong supporter of the Jubilee Coalition, has never come out openly about the issue.
The MPs from the Mt Kenya region, who included city TNA MPs, said they would be work with Mr Waweru in his quest for the seat.
Mr. Waititu was one of Dr Kidero’s competitors for the city’s top job during the 2013 General Election. Waititu also lost an election appeal against Dr Kidero but contested for and won the Kabete constituency seat by-election with a landslide early this year following the killing of then area MP George Muchai.
Mr Waweru who spoke in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto and several other Jubilee MPs also asked Dr Kidero to ensure he involved all political leaders in the running of Nairobi affairs.
