City politicians deny financing Kayole’s notorious gang Gaza
Two Nairobi politicians said to be funding a Kayole’s notorious gang Gaza have denied the allegations and blamed their political rivals of engaging in smear campaigns.
Embakasi Central MP John Ndirangu Kariuki and Nairobi County Assembly minority leader Abdi Guyo were linked to funding the gang’s activities in an investigative story aired on NTV on Sunday, titled Diary of Gangster.
The investigative story had cited a confession book, written by a transformed Gaza gang member, which claimed the two leaders funded the gang.
The group also extorts money from business owners in Kayole, according to the book.
“Our funding comes from our leaders namely MCA Guyo, MP Ndirash and the money we take from business people for security,” read a section ofthe book seen by the investigative journalist.
But Speaking to Nairobi News in Kayole, Mr Ndirangu said that he was shocked, but not surprised, with the reports which came barely four days to the Jubilee Party primaries.
DIRTY POLITICS
Mr Ndirangu said that his opponents had resorted to dirty politics by tarnishing his name in a bid to derail him from his campaign.
“This report came at a time when my opponents have tried to sway voters but have been defeated. Now they are dragging my name to criminal activities. I have never supported or met any gang members in my life,” said Mr Ndirangu.
Mr Ndirangu said he has been on the forefront in fighting criminal activities in his constituency, especially in Kayole, which has been branded a hub of criminal activities.
He said he successfully lobbied the national government to transfer area OCPD whom he accused of laxity in ending crime in the area.
“I have even talked with the (current) OCPD, he said that the police operations are ongoing and the criminals are even moving out of the constituency because they have nowhere to hide,” said Mr Ndirangu.
POLITICAL PROPAGANDA
Nairobi Minority Leader Mr Guyo said the politically instigated propaganda will not make him lose his seat in the August election.
He added that he has been supporting the police in arresting criminals who have been terrorizing Kayole residents.
Members of the Gaza gang are said to carry out robberies on M-Pesa shops, bank agents, snatching smart phones from pedestrians, burglaries, carjackings, kidnappings and torture and drug peddling.
