Couple in court for failing to pay Sh300k hotel bill after ‘good time’
A couple accused of failing to settle their bill at a local resort was on Friday charged at a Nakuru court.
Roy Osano and Beth Muthoni appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo accused of jointly failing to settle a bill of Sh 332, 210 they incurred after enjoying the services of Hill Court Resort and Spa situated in Nakuru Town.
They committed the offence on diverse dates between June 22 and July 27.
The court heard that the two had booked a room at the resort where they had good time together.
According to the prosecution, despite the two enjoying the bounteous services at the hotel, they failed to foot the bill that had accumulated over the period.
REFUSED TO HONOUR SUMMONS
The two were reported to the police but refused to honour summons requiring them to appear before the regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The court heard that they had been at large since the case was reported on July 27.
They were arrested on October 12.
However, both suspects denied the charges.
Ms Muthoni, whom the court heard is 10 weeks pregnant, told the court that she was still undergoing treatment at a Nairobi Hospital after she experienced some complications.
ACCUSED MANAGEMENT OF INFLATING THE BILL
She on the other hand accused the management of the hotel for inflating the bill with an excess of Sh70,000.
The court heard that Ms Muthoni tried contacting the hotel management to complain about the inflated bill but was not given fair hearing.
On his part, Mr Osano pleaded with the court to be released on bond as he was the sole bread winner of his family.
Mr Osano unsuccessfully tried to distance himself from the charges saying that he was not the one responsible for the bill according an agreement between them.
The prosecution opposed the bond and told the court that the two were flight risks.
The magistrate denied suspects bond but advised them to renew the application.
