Crucial road project delayed by lack of funds
Plans to construct a link road connecting Ngong Road to Lang’ata Road have stalled due to lack of funds.
The project was supposed to be one of the roads done alongside the Western Ring roads, commissioned by former president Mwai Kibaki, but was put on hold due to shortage of funds.
Besides the actual construction, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is looking at costs for resettling those living where the identified corridor would cut through.
The road starts at the Lang’ata Police Station, intersects the Southern bypass, cuts through the populous Kibera slum to end at Ngong Road, where it will join the newly opened Ring Road.

“The designs have been done. Currently we are sourcing for funds from the government, donors or a partner,” said KURA head of communications John Cheboi.
Mr Cheboi added that the corridor had not been mapped and this will see genuine land owners compensated for the acquired space.
KURA has in the recent past had to spend considerably amounts of cash compensating land owners, for example at the Bomas Interchange.
The road will complement Mbagathi Way as a link between the two congested roads.
Designs for upgrade of the 30km stretch from Adams Arcade to Ngong and from Karen to Bomas are already done, but a funds shortage has stalled development.
