Dear Kenyan content creators, monetising on Facebook won’t come easy!

Kenyan content creators celebrated when Facebook announced plans to roll out monetisation in the country this June

However, creators have to be eligible to earn from their content via Facebook’s in-stream ads, ads in Reels, Instagram, and Gifts.

Requirements for live videos

  • Minimum 10,000 followers
  • 600,000 total minutes viewed in the last 60 days with at least 60,000 minutes of the 600,000 total minutes viewed in live videos.
  • Page has at least 5 active videos, including at least 3 previously live videos, that you created. This doesn’t include active crossposted videos.

Requirements for video posts

  • Must be 18 years and above
  • Have at least five active videos on their Facebook page
  • Have collected more than 60,000 minutes of views in the last 60 days.

To achieve a total of 60,000 minutes of video views within a span of 60 days, while considering an audience of 5000 followers, each of whom watches an average of 30 seconds per day, you will need to evaluate the collective contribution of the audience towards the goal.

Considering that each follower spends 30 seconds (0.5 minutes) daily watching content. Multiply this by the number of followers (5000), you will find that the collective daily watch time of the audience equals 2500 minutes.

Now, to ascertain how long it would take to reach the target of 60,000 minutes, divide the total watch time goal by the daily watch time contributed by the audience per day which is 2500 minutes.

Hence, with each follower dedicating 30 seconds daily to viewing content, it would take approximately 24 days to achieve the target of 60,000 minutes of video views.

However, there is a catch.

While it would take roughly 24 days to accumulate 60,000 minutes of watch time under the provided conditions.

Here is another scenario.

In order to attain 60,000 minutes of watch time within the span of 60 days, it’s essential to determine the number of videos required to be uploaded daily to meet this target.

Calculating the average watch time per video needed per day involves dividing the total watch time required by the number of days available. In this case, with 60,000 minutes needed over 60 days, the average watch time per video per day stands at 1,000 minutes.

To ascertain the quantity of videos necessary to attain this average watch time, one must consider the total watch time per day by all followers, divided by the average watch time per video required per day.

With each follower contributing 30 seconds of watch time daily, totalling 2,500 minutes across all followers, and considering the average watch time per video required per day at 1,000 minutes, the calculation yields approximately 2.5 videos.

However, since it’s not feasible to upload a fraction of a video, rounding up to the nearest whole number is necessary.

Thus, to fulfill the objective of achieving 60,000 minutes of watch time within the designated 60-day timeframe, 3 videos need to be uploaded each day. This calculation assumes that each follower watches 30 seconds of content daily.

According to Facebook guidelines, consistently publishing video content on a daily or weekly basis can prompt viewers to revisit for new episodes.

However, it’s important to avoid spammy or clickbait content, as it goes against community and monetisation policies and guidelines. Violating these policies may result in flagged content and the withdrawal of monetisation privileges.

This calculation relies on numerous variables, including the overall length of the videos, the popularity of the content, the frequency with which your followers engage with your content on a daily basis, and the duration for which they engage with it.

Should any of these factors not be conducive to your online content, it could significantly impact your viewership numbers.

Achieving the target of 60,000 minutes in video views may then become considerably challenging.

Being a content creator requires time and energy to grow your assets and community organically, ensuring authenticity in your content delivery.

According to the Facebook guidelines, “Facebook prioritises content that generates authentic interactions and that people seek out and return to.”

For those aiming to quickly monetise their Facebook accounts, it’s essential to understand that success takes time.

As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Take your time to build a solid foundation.
