Disband AP, Ruto ally demands over lawyer’s murder

An ally of Deputy President William Ruto has launched a scathing attack on the Administration Police calling for its disbandment over the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani.

Nairobi Lawyer Donald B Kipkorir says the murder, suspected to have been caused by elements of AP, has stained the administration.

“Killing of Lawyer Willie Kimani is one more stain in the sordid history of Administration Police. The AP has to be disbanded. It’s rogue,” he tweeted.

Mr Kimani’s body alongside that of a taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were on Friday found in a river in Ol-Donyo Sabuk. A third body, thought to be that of Mr Kimani’s client Josphat Mwenda, slipped back into the river.

Some of the mortuary attendants said the bodies were found with their hands tied at their back. The records at the morgue show that their cause of death was drowning.

The three went missing on June 23 in Machakos at around noon and are said to have been carjacked while returning to the home of the client after a court hearing in Mavoko.

RESISTED ARREST

The three had attended a criminal case at the Mavoko Law Courts where Mr Kimani was representing Mr Mwendwa.

Mr Mwendwa, had been charged with being in possession of bhang and resisting arrest.

Police said that during the arrest in April last year in Syokimau, Mr Mwendwa attempted to stab a female Administration Police officer with a knife but her colleague shot him in the hand. He was arrested and taken to hospital and later charged in court.

Mr Mwendwa had claimed that the AP officer shot him following a disagreement over personal issues but the officer later changed the story saying he accidentally shot him after he resisted arrest.

The matter, which was reported the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), is still under investigations.

He claimed that the officer started harassing and intimidating him to drop the charges. On Friday, Inspector of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered the arrest of the three AP officers implicated in the murder.
