Do not be shy, keep owning Uhuru’s projects – Mutahi Ngunyi to Ruto
Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has encouraged President William Ruto to keep up owning, and launching projects started by former President Uhuru Kenyatta unapologetically.
The Head of State has been under fire on multiple occasions for launching projects which had been initiated by his predecessor with his critics suggesting that he was riding on Mr Kenyatta’s achievements.
However, analyst Ngunyi is of the contrary opinion and asserts that President Ruto played a significant role in the inception of the projects he is now inaugurating.

Citing an example of the MV Uhuru II ship, Ngunyi posted, “MV Uhuru II was a project of the Uhuru/Ruto government. What is wrong with Ruto launching it? And what is wrong with Ruto launching the projects he co-created with Uhuru? Dear Ruto: You should own these projects. Do not be shy. You were part of them. Claim their success.”
Nonetheless, during the launch of the cargo ship President Ruto congratulated Mr Kenyatta saying the project had seen the light of the day courtesy of him.
“I must congratulate my predecessor for his foresight in coming up with this shipyard refurbishment. One morning he asked me to visit Kisumu and see what the military could do when we came here, it was a heap of dirt, wreckage, and old buildings. To see what we are seeing here today is phenomenal and I must say a lot for President Uhuru Kenyatta and the leadership of our military with a lot of foresight drove this programme to where we are today.”
‘Launched’ projects
During President Ruto’s tour of the Central region, a section of Azimio leaders from Mt Kenya claimed that his tours were nothing but a way to try and redeem his image.
The former Laikipia governor said, “They are launching projects started and completed two years ago…some even by the counties.”
Citing the Kiganjo KCC in Nyahururu as an example of a project that had been launched by Dr Ruto despite it being completed and even launched again, Mureithi said, “This regime is yet, in fact, to complete any new project on its own.”
