Doctor says in-laws framed in wife’s murder
A doctor accused of killing his wife and throwing her body in Nairobi River now claims his parents-in-law are framing him because he demanded back his dowry.
Dr Patius Gicobi Njagi, currently remanded at Kamiti Prison for the murder of Virginia Wamaitha Thuku, also alleged that police were colluding with his in-laws since his wife was only missing.
He told Justice Roselyn Korir on Tuesday that his wife has remarried and was living happily in a foreign country.
“My wife remarried and she is currently based in Botswana,” said Dr Gicobi.
The doctor has been accused alongside Joseph Chomba Mwangi, Caesar Wachira Muthoni and Mary Njeri Wachira of murdering Wamaitha on August 17, 2011 at Mwiki, Kasarani.

The wife’s remains were allegedly packed in polythene bags which were later dumped in Nairobi River.
The doctor was arrested on June 22, 2012 and arraigned in court soon after.
He wants to be released on bail to take care of his children.
“As the only available parent, I would wish to continue taking care of my two young children whose fate has since my arrest been in the hands of well-wishers,” he told the court.
He has also filed medical reports indicating that he was diagnosed with chronic peptic ulcers and that he was on constant medication and directory management.
Dr Njagi claimed he was being treated at Kenyatta National Hospital for hypertension and that he had a moderate heart enlargement.
He said he had a problem with his kidneys too.
Hearing was set for March 5.
