Ruto accuses Deep State of sponsoring violence in Jacaranda
Deputy President has accused the State of unleashing violence on his supporters in Nairobi.
He spoke while addressing a political rally at the Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi and claimed the move was aimed at barring from attending the event and addressing his supporters, most of whom were donning yellow merchandise.
“I want to tell our opponents to sell their manifesto instead of using the police on us. They should also stop paying the youth to come and cause mayhem. In any case they only have 50 days and all this youth will be employed,” said Ruto.
He did not, however, share evidence to substantiate his claims.
Earlier, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Embakasi East parliamentary candidate Francis Mureithi was injured following an attack by youth at the venue.
The youthful politician was whisked away by his supporters from the event while bleeding from the forehead with blood and khaki trouser.
As the tensions increased at the event, Police lobbed teargas to disperse rowdy youth who’d started pelting stones at the venue.
One person was arrested.
Mr Mureithi was reportedly stoned by rioting youth.
