Dr Ofweneke reveals how much he received for Emceeing Akothee’s wedding
Renowned corporate and celebrity Master of Ceremony (MC), Dr Ofweneke, says he was paid Sh1.4 million to be the lead announcer at singer Akothee’s wedding.
Dr Ofweneke also confirmed, in an interview with the media, that he received the cash upfront.
“I was paid Sh1.4 million,” Dr Ofweneke said.
This amount without a doubt makes the media personality one of the highest-paid in the business in Kenya.
Ofweneke who is also a radio and TV presenter also praised the couple for entrusting him to entertain guests at their wedding.
“Esther (Akothee) is my good friend. I have seen her go through a journey in relationships. I have seen her broken and happy at the same time,” he said.
“I was so happy and excited to see her walk down the aisle with the love of her life.”
He noted that Akothee’s story gives hope to other women.
Mr Ofweneke was among the guests who made headlines during Akothee’s royal wedding ceremony held on Monday at Windsor Hotel in Nairobi.
In an earlier interview with Nairobi News, the MC revealed Akothee, born Esther Akoth, paid for his services as per his rate card.
Explaining why he was the chosen one, Dr Ofweneke said it was because he works with people who rebuke and criticize him with love.
“I am also ready to serve them in an equal sense. If they call me to their events, I don’t charge them,” he said.
The talented comedian is widely known for bringing laughter and humor to any event he hosts, as seen during the fundraising, requiem mass, and burial of TV anchor Catherine Kasavuli, where he was the MC.
Akothee’s wedding was the talk of the town as it was attended by the who is who in the political, social, and entertainment scene in Kenya, including media personalities and celebrated politicians.
These include Ida Odinga, wife to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa, Suba lawmaker Milly Odhiambo and his Lang’ata counterpart Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o.
Jumwa brought excitement at the event when she elected to dress the bride with a ‘money’ necklace as a wedding gift.
Akothee and his better half Denis ‘Omosh’ Schweizer are primed to have a second wedding in Switzerland.
The bride says she will fly her entire bridal team to the European nation for that event.
