Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was barred from accessing President William Ruto in Nairobi, in an event that almost caused a scene.

Waititu was spotted unsuccessfully trying to catch the attention of the Head of State who was presiding over a housing event at Soweto East, in Kibra.

President Ruto had finished signing off the launch of the Soweto Housing program when Mr. Waititu appeared to approach his motorcade.

As the President got into his official car to leave, the politician stood at the front window of his official car waving and waved towards the place he was seated.

It is at this moment that Dr Ruto’s security team swung into action and moved the former Kiambu governor away.

He was heard engaging the security detail about as President Ruto’s motorcade left.

It is not clear what the former governor wanted to inform the President.

After the altercation, he made his way into his car and also left.

Earlier on. Mr Waititu had been recognized by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja as one of the residents in Kibera.

“I also want to recognize the presence of former governor Waititu “Baba Yao” who is one of your people from this slum,” Mr Sakaja said amidst cheers from the residents.

This is not the first time that Mr Waititu has gotten himself into a compromising situation.

In February last year, he was also caught in a similar situation as he was mobbed by rowdy youths as former President Uhuru Kenyatta left Soweto area in Kayole on his way to Dandora.

The former head of state had opened a hospital in the area and was heading off to Dandora.

As the former president’s convoy stopped, Mr Waititu moved out of his car and the excited youth dragged him. The security team at the situation however saved the day as they carried him into his car.

Waititu was impeached by both the Kiambu county assembly and Senate on allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
