Exclusive: Azziad Nasenya honoured at Women in film awards
Content creator Azziad Nasenya was celebrated as the best actress in TV drama at the recent Women in Film Awards held during Women’s Day celebrations.
In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Azziad shared her plans for 2024, expressing her excitement for the opportunities ahead.
“There is a lot we have planned to do this year. Being a woman is being a hero, and that is why I think they should be celebrated every day,” she remarked, paying tribute to her mother as her ultimate inspiration.
Reflecting on her journey, Azziad emphasized her longstanding ambition and dedication to her craft.
“Growing up, I have always been ambitious and talented, and I have always wanted to be a great person in this world. Everyone that knew me from way back can tell you that I am the same person. I just believed and put my work into my dreams, and God has been up to,” she shared.
Azziad also revealed Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis as her role model, emphasizing the importance of celebrating every milestone and prioritizing kindness towards others.
The Women in Film Awards, now in its 5th edition, aims to honor women across various categories within the film industry, including directors, writers, producers, cinematographers, editors, and sound designers.
Among the notable awardees, Victoria Goro, Academy Director at MultiChoice Talent Factory, was recognized as the most influential personality woman in film.
Grace Irungu and Mary Gacheri were feted as the Best Scriptwriter and Best Actress, respectively, for their outstanding work on the film “Nyakio, My Love,” which portrays the journey of a young laborer challenging societal norms.
Lynn Gitau received the award for Best Director Student Film for “Somewhere in Kole,” a collaborative project by teams of MultiChoice Talent Factory students.
Dora Nyaboke and Margaret Wacera were recognized as finalists in the Best Actress in TV Drama and Best Film Producer categories, respectively, for their exceptional contributions to the industry.
Mary Shgwan Wanjiku clinched the title of Best Scriptwriter in TV Drama, while Milly Chebby was recognized as the Best Newcomer Producer.
